Product Description:
The lesson opens with a story about a cell phone plunging into a lake. Students are then challenged to devise a way to make a cell phone float in water. Using a self-inflating balloon for inspiration, students combine baking soda with different acids to find which reaction produces the most gas. Then they explore how different amounts of baking soda affect the reaction. Finally, groups create a model of a device and test it.
The kit is intended to be used in a classroom, under the guidance of a teacher, with students in grades 4–8. The kit contains enough materials for multiple classes of 32 students, and a teacher guide which includes the student activity sheets.
