This hands-on science lesson is designed for chemists to use when they visit upper elementary
or middle school students during the school day or as part of an after school program. The 30-minute lesson serves up to 25 students working in groups of 3 to 4 and concludes with a self-inflating balloon for each to take home.

 

This kit is reusable. Instructions to replenish the kit are listed on the inside back cover of the presenter’s guide. Additional self-inflating balloons are available through ACS. The kit contains enough citric acid, magnesium sulfate, sodium bicarbonate, table salt, and calcium carbonate to conduct the final demonstration 5 times, once for practice and 4 times in front of students.
